Green Cove Station (Visitor's Center) is located less than a mile from our cottage. It once was an old general store, and it was left as is when it closed. You will delight at seeing familiar items such as hair nets, cough medicines, shoes, headache remedies, kites, and ladies handkerchiefs, all still on display! As an added bonus, ask the Forest Service gentlemen, "Skip", to direct you to the Green Cove Station Museum in the back of the building. Bring home a piece of history and help support the non-profit organization, Friends of Mount Rogers.

Whitetop Mountain (altitude 5,520 ft.), located about one mile from our cottage. Has the highest rode accessible to automobiles in the state of Virginia. Enjoy panoramic views of the neighboring states of North Carolina & Tennessee.

Mt. Rogers, has numerous hiking trails with access to the Appalachian Trail. Classified as one of the highest mountains located in the Appalachian Mountain chain, Mt. Rogers is only three miles from our cottage in Green Cove, Damascus.

The Virginia Creeper Trail is located only one short mile from our cottage and was once a working train track for the Virginia Creeper Train. It serves as a scenic biking, hiking, or horseback riding trail by day and by night!

Grayson Highlands State Park is located approximately five miles from our cottage. You will find plenty of hiking trails and camping sites. The picnic areas along the way offer opportunities to enjoy a day with nature. Don't forget to check out the crafts exhibits, mountain artifacts, and photo exhibits at the park visitor's center.

Fishing...some of the best in the state and only a "stone's throw" from our cottage doorsteps! With your Virginia Fishing License in hand you must stop along the 10 miles of Straight Branch-a fresh water stream stocked with trout. Beartree Lake, 6 miles away, is also stocked with trout.
